Streaming giant YouTube has launched a weekly chart for top podcasts in the U.S. to showcase the most popular podcasts on YouTube.
In a blog post on 15 May, the company said the initiative is aimed at recognizing the most celebrated podcasters who are redefining the next era of entertainment with engaging, influential content.
Tracking your favorite podcasters
With the new weekly chart, YouTube users can see the Top 100 podcast shows in the US to see where their favorite podcasts rank, or which podcasts they are really missing out on!
This way, they can recognize and celebrate top podcasters who are redefining the next era of entertainment with engaging, influential, culture-defining shows across a variety of genres like News, Sports, Comedy, and True Crime.
The chart will be updated with podcast shows ranked by watchtime every Wednesday. This will include playlists that are designated as “podcasts” by the creator in the upload process, and will not include playlists that contain only clips or Shorts.
YouTube is bringing this feature as the platform recorded 1 billion monthly active podcast viewers recently, indicating that podcasts are a significant part of its operations.
The company is working on making the charts available in more regions in addition to the U.S., with more updates to come.
Stepping up to the challenge
YouTube is the biggest streaming platform worldwide, but it is starting to get formidable rivals such as Rumble, which recently launched a live streaming service that is expected to beat YouTube.
In order to stay ahead, the platform has to step up its game, and these charts are a new way to spice things up. Other initiatives include the partnership with TIkTok and Instagram to let users seamlessly share videos on YouTube.
By ranking podcasters, fans will develop more interest and become more involved in the daily use of the platform, which is a major way to stay relevant.
