Vehicle motion cues in iOS18 and iPadOS18 can reduce the impact of motion sickness when in a moving vehicle.
According to a demo post by Apple Support on X on 1 December, iPhone and iPad users can turn on the cues to help them maintain control over motion sickness as passengers.Â
Users can set their devices to switch on this feature automatically when vehicle motion is detected or they may choose to turn it on manually.
How it works
Motion sickness is a condition that results from your sense organs such as ears and eyes giving conflicting signals to your brain when travelling in a vehicle or airplane.
As the vehicle moves suddenly, your brain may get the wrong signals which makes you sick in the process. To prevent or at least reduce the effect of motion sickness, Apple has included a motion cue feature in the iOS18 and iPadiOS18 versions.
The motion cue feature detects the likely direction of the vehicleâs motion and guides your eyes to it on your deviceâs screen without interfering with your use of the device.
The cues give your brain a sort of âwarningâ ahead so that there are nor surprise movements that can cause motion sickness symptoms.
To turn on the feature, go to your Accessibility settings and tap on Motion, then Show Vehicle Motion Cues, and turn it on.
You can add the feature to your deviceâs Accessibility Shortcuts or to the Control Setter for easier access.
New features on latest iOS
The iOS 18 is the latest iOS version that has been released, and it has come with several new features, including the motion cues feature.
Older iOS versions however seem to suffer many setbacks, with many of them not able to access some apps and platforms. For instance, some older iOS versions and iPhones will not be able to access WhatsApp by May 2025.
