Chinese AI-driven mobility company XPENG has chosen International Motors Ltd (IML) as local distributor ahead of its UK launch in 2025.
According to a press release on 19 November, the partnership between the two is a strategic one that will support XPENG’s global expansion in Europe.
XPENG will launch in the UK in early 2025 with its advanced G6 mid-size SUV as the first model to be available for UK consumers.
Leveraging shift to EV
Through the partnership between these two companies, XPENG will leverage the rapidly growing popularity of electric vehicles in the UK to support its expansion efforts.
IML, with nearly 50 years of experience in vehicle distribution across the UK, Ireland, and Northern Europe, will provide support for XPENG electric vehicles from importation to aftersales servicing.
Commenting on this, Alex Tang, Head of International Business at XPENG said:
“Our partnership with IM Group marks an important step in XPENG’s global expansion. We are excited to introduce UK consumers to a new standard in electric mobility, combining innovative technology with exceptional design to deliver an unparalleled experience that meets the demands of today’s drivers. With a vision for AI-defined mobility, we aim to revolutionize the driving experience in the UK, making it safer, smarter, more sustainable and more pleasant in the near future.”
Supporting European expansion
XPENG started expanding into the European market in 2020 with Norway as the first country. It later launched in Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Iceland, Spain, and Portugal.
The company recently got a Euro NCAP 5-star safety rating for the G6, and the expansion to the UK is a major step towards realizing its goal of becoming a significant global player in the electric vehicle sector, with half of its sales coming from over 60 international markets outside of China.
