Windows users have received the recent Microsoft Windows 11 update with mixed feelings.
Responding to a tweet by Windows official handle on 9 October, users voiced their thoughts concerning the annual update which Microsoft did on 1 October for 2024.
While some liked the update, many more had issues and have changed to other operating systems such as Linux and Mac.
Major issues with Windows 11
The newly updated Windows 11 apparently has many issues, but a few stood out in the comment section.
The first is that the update has some privacy-intruding telemetry systems. Concerning this, one user, apparently a computer dealer commented:
“My customers on Windows 11 are all fodder for privacy intruding telemetry systems. I have to configure 20 settings and disconnect the forced MS [Micrososft] account connection and tell them MS doesn’t care about their privacy.”
Another issue is that the upgrade came with forced updates, compelling users to upgrade whether they wanted to or not. One user said the “No” button to opt out of the upgrade was grayed out, so they couldn’t turn it down.
Users also complained of too many ads and understandably so. From the comments, the search bar has a “gazillion” ads, which could be a turn-off for many users.
In fact, some users say they prefer older versions such as Windows 7 and 8, and 10, which are faster and smoother to use with fewer ads. As a result of the issues, some have also changed their operating systems to Linux and Mac.
Windows 11 needs fixing
The responses from users suggest that Windows 11 is quite unpopular among. Some users have intentionally disabled their TPM bios so as not to “wake up with win11 ad & spyware and a broken WSL2 installation.”
Microsoft may need to look into the concerns if it wants to make Windows 11 more popular. It appears the company has made a lot of recalls, which is also proof that there are bugs to fix, hopefully in the 2025 update.
