OpenAI launched a new feature on ChatGPT, known as ChatGPT Search, at the end of October to serve as a search engine.
Since the launch on 31 October, users have given feedback on the new feature, some of which believe that it rivals Google and could even replace it.
The feature is currently available to only Enterprise and Edu members, but has received a lot of commendations.
Replacing Google
Google has been the most popular web search engine for a long time and still is. With the launch of ChatGPT, will this change?
According to some users of ChatGPT Search, it is a better browser, providing more information than Google can. One of them wrote:
“So awesome! Over the last 2 years I have gone from being a Google Search power user to basically ceasing to need it! This is an incredibly powerful tool; because of AI I have done what would be an inhuman amount of work in those 2 years as well. The output amplification due to time saved and thus opening the door for additional work/research/projects is intense!”
Some users even wish to make ChatGPT their default search engine for browsers. According to reports, the search tool delivers direct answers to queries, unlike Google which returns several pages with links for users to keep searching through.
This has reportedly put Google on the edge, as the company worries about the ChatGPT replacing its search engine in the near future.
Significant improvement
OpenAI created ChatGPT initially as a simple AI assistant to help users get information on any subject they want.
Over time, the tool has improved in its capacity to deliver answers and now serves as a search engine as well.
This is a remarkable improvement and one of many that OpenAI is bringing to ChatGPT. The company recently introduced a new benchmark known as SimpleQA for improving answers to direct short questions.
