WhatsApp has introduced reminder notifications for status updates for iOS 24.22.10.80, which is available to some beta testers.
A tweet on 6 October said that some users can start testing the feature by installing certain previous updates.
WhatsApp has just submitted the update through the TestFlight beta Program, bringing the version up to 24.22.10.80.
Keeping users informed
The new feature will give WhatsApp users occasional reminders about status updates they may have missed, especially from their favorite contacts.
This is helpful particularly for those who are busy and may not regularly check their updates, ensuring that they stay informed at all times if they want to.
The feature brings to iOS users the same opportunity to receive notifications for specific status updates which Android users already enjoy.
Some beta testers can go to their notification settings and turn on the option to enable them to receive occasional alerts for status updates shared by their contacts.
WhatsApp prioritizes statuses of contacts that users interact with the most, even though they cannot control the frequency of alerts or choose which status updates to get alerts for.
Interestingly, contacts will not be notified about users turning on the feature or turning it off, thus maintaining confidentiality and privacy.
For now, reminder notification is also available to some beta testers who install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app, but it will be rolling out to more users over the coming days.
New features for Android
WhatsApp is also rolling out new features for Android 2.24.23.18 beta.
According to a tweet on 6 October, the team is working on a theme feature that allows users to choose the main color of the app, which will be available in a future update.
