Not long after announcing to the world that it was dominating the e-truck sector in both Europe and North America, automotive behemoth Volvo has unveiled its new heavy-duty electric flagship that can go for up to 600 km on a single charge – taking only 40 minutes to fill.
As it happens, Volvo has debuted a long-distance heavy-duty electric truck flagship with a range of up to 600 km and with batteries that can charge in 40 minutes, as part of its mission to revolutionize long-distance truck transport and minimize emissions, the company stated on May 20.
Volvo’s new electric truck specifications
Specifically, the new electric truck for long distances, the Volvo FH Aero Electric with e-axle, will launch in the second quarter of 2026. It supports the new MCS (Megawatt Charging System) standard and takes approximately 40 minutes to charge its battery pack from 20% to 80%.
On top of that, it will feature a total weight of 48 tonnes and a payload capacity close to that of a traditional diesel truck, thanks to an additional supporting tag axle (6×2 axle configuration) that enables packing more batteries and allows for better weight distribution between the batteries and heavy trailers.
Additionally, the new e-axle driveline technology creates room for a lot more battery capacity, allowing the FH Aero Electric to boast as many as eight batteries onboard, with 780 kWh installed battery capacity.
Commenting on the launch, Roger Alm, the Volvo Trucks President, highlighted the importance of developing products like this one, pointing out that:
“This is a real breakthrough in zero-emission transport. Now, transport companies can operate really long distances with electric trucks without having to compromise on productivity. The superfast charging and high payload capacity make this a very competitive solution.”
Furthermore, he added that the proliferation of electric trucks in long haul operation will “make an important contribution to reduce CO2 in our industry, since this is where you can save the most per truck,” arguing that this was “positive news for transport companies and for society.”
As a reminder, Volvo Trucks earlier shared the information about its domination over Europe’s heavy electric truck segment for the fifth consecutive year, where 1,970 electric Volvo trucks were registered last year, accounting for 47% of the market, in addition to more than a 40% share in North America.
