The Ukrainian defense forces have unveiled an indigenously built Shchedryk drone to help in the ongoing combat with Russia.
Announced by the government on 25 December, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been approved for use by the military and will be used to monitor the movements of hostile troops.
The drone is designed to resist any assaults from electronic devices, making it a useful tool against Russian jammers which have been a major concern to the Ukrainian defense.
Designed for top performance
The new unmanned drone is designed to outperform existing airborne weapons used by any military.
It can reach a speed of up to 150 kilometers (93 miles) per hour, a range of up to 40 kilometers (25 miles), and an altitude of up to 4 kilometers (2.5 miles).
These parameters are hardly found in any other drone. According to the Deputy Defense Minister Dmytro Klimenkov,
“The capabilities of the aerial vehicle and its optical equipment allow it to operate from an altitude that is difficult to reach for most enemy air defense systems.”
Klimenkov said over 200,000 indigenous drones have already been delivered to the warfront as production was ramped up for fast deployment.
Ukraine has an ambition to build what it describes as an army of drones, hence it intends to increase the production to up to 4 million annually, starting from 2025.
These steps have been taken as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine persists. The country seems to be strengthening its defenses by turning to unmanned drones this time to reduce the number of human casualties resulting from manned aircrafts.
Global military boost
Recently, there seems to be a general awakening as countries around the world continue to strengthen their military in anticipation of combat.
Just today, China launched the world’s largest amphibious assault chip which serves both as a landing ship and air carrier.
