Proof-of-Stake network Tron is set to roll out gas-free USDT transactions on its blockchain within the coming week.
Founder of the network Justin Sun announced this in a tweet on 25 February, calling on wallets that wish to support the new feature to show interest.
When implemented, USDT transactions can be conducted on the Tron network on personal wallets without the need to hold any TRX for gas fees.
Ease of transaction
Gas fees are fees charged by the network for facilitating the transfer of USDT on the network.
The fee is usually in the network’s native currency (in this case TRX), which makes it compulsory to hold some of the token in your personal wallet for this purpose.
With the rollout of this new feature, those who wish to transfer USDT on the Tron network will not need to hold any TRX for gas fees if they don’t want to hold the token.
Instead, network fees will be charged in USDT, the same stablecoin that is being used in the transaction. This feature was initially only available on centralized exchanges but will now be enabled in personal wallets.
This is one of the most innovative concepts Tron has come up with lately. The founder himself has been more involved in politics and only recently got back fully on the job.
Ethereum still backward
Tron was first founded on Ethereum but since it became an independent blockchain in 2018, it has been in a rivalry with Tron doing everything to outcompete the top Proof-of-Stake network.
With the gas-free transactions on Tron, this is definitely another win as Ethereum fees continue to skyrocket with the network becoming slower and more congested.
Before now, Tron fees have been much lower and will probably get better now that no TRX is required to send USDT.
