As new models and innovations continue to flood the automobile market, the latest for Toyota comes in the form of its new signature color – the ‘Wave Maker,’ which will be available on TRD Pro versions of 4Runner, Tacoma, Tundra, and Sequoia.
Indeed, the exclusive bold new color is inspired by nature, specifically “unexplored areas” and “glacial depths,” in line with the company’s view that colors can trigger intense emotions and “inspire our inner adventurer,” according to a press release from May 16.
From warm hues to the Wave Maker
As it happens, the most recent TRD Pro color, an eye-popping shade of blue, is the result of artistic work and efforts toward innovation by Toyota’s CALTY Design team. Commenting on the process, Benjamin Jimenez, general manager at CALTY’s Ann Arbor location, explained:
“We had a few years of warm natural hues inspired by traditional landscapes like Terra and Mudbath as signature colors. With Wave Maker, we were inspired by unexplored areas of adventure, including extreme territory and even beyond Earth.”
Furthermore, he shared that this color embodies an “elemental spirit that evokes images of glacial depths and the thrill of new frontiers.”
Notably, Wave Maker is the 11th on the list of Toyota’s unique TRD Pro colors and is part of a tradition that began in 2015 with Inferno. The 2026 TRD Pro models – particularly for 4Runner, Tacoma, Tundra, and Sequoia – will become available at dealerships in the fall of 2025.
Speaking of vibrant colors, Toyota has earlier this year dropped a citrus-colored, bright, and stylish sports car, the GR86 Yuzu Edition for 2026, featuring a lively yellow exterior color as a nod to a memorable special edition of GR86’s predecessor, the Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0, as well as the matte-black wheels and other black accents.
And that’s in between other additions to its already wide range, including recent upgrades to its 2026 bZ Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the all-new Crown Estate model for the Japanese market, as well as the first in-house automotive battery plant in the United States.
