Top automakers Toyota, Suzuki, and Daihatsu are set to release their jointly built mini-commercial van electric vehicles (BEVs) this year.
According to a press release on 29 January, the three companies have agreed to each release their own BEVs in fiscal 2025, supplying them to the delivery industry.
The vehicles will have the technological touch of each of the companies, making them a unique breed not peculiar to any of them, although bearing their different logos.
Towards Carbon neutrality
Suzuki, Daihatsu, and Toyota are committed to driving the initiative forward to achieve carbon neutrality through the design and manufacture of electric vehicles.
The release of these BEVs for commercial use is in line with this vision, bringing a practical and sustainable means of transportation to the delivery industry.
The mini-commercial van BEV combines Suzuki and Daihatsuâs expertise in creating small-size cars with Toyota’s electrification technology and is equipped with a BEV system suitable for mini-commercial vehicles.
This is not the first time Toyota is partnering with Suzuki or Daihatsu. Toyota had in 2024 partnered with Suzuki towards the production of electric cars, specifically BEV SUVs that Suzuki was to make for Toyota.
Even earlier in the year, Toyota agreed to work with Daihatsu to improve the latterâs business, making it focus on mini vehicles.
This mini-commercial van BEV project is therefore building on this foundation and may lead to further collaborations in the future.
The focus on electric cars
Toyota, Suzuki, and Daihatsu are not the only automakers shifting their focus to electric vehicles.
Other top brands like Hyundai and Honda are also making electric models that are set to advance the vision towards Carbon neutrality.
Models that come to mind are Hyundaiâs INITIUM which was unveiled last year, and Hondaâs electric version of the legendary Prelude which it intends to introduce to the American market this year.
