As carmakers continue to drop new and better-looking vehicles in car salons all around the world, Toyota has just announced its own contribution – a citrus-colored, bright, and stylish sports car, GR86 Yuzu Edition for 2026.
Indeed, the novel Toyota sports car boasts a vibrant yellow exterior color as a nod to a memorable special edition of GR86’s predecessor, the Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0, and should hit the dealerships starting fall 2025, according to the car manufacturer’s press release from April 3.

Furthermore, based on the GR86 Premium grade, the Yuzu edition will feature 18-inch matte-black wheels and other black accents throughout the vehicle to balance out the zest. Inside, it’s the opposite – the interior is black with yellow accents.
Another stylish element is the black Ultrasuede-trimmed two-level heated adjustable sports seats with yellow perforation and stitching in the same color on the steering wheel, parking brake handle, and door trim. Customers can further customize with accessories like a cat-back exhaust with GR logoed silver-colored tips.
The low-slung, driver-focused cockpit with digital instrument panel, push-button start, HVAC system with LED dials and piano-key switches, as well as the leather-encased steering wheel with integrated audio controls ensure the inside comfort.
As a standard on the Yuzu edition and Premium grade, the car arrives with an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system, complemented by a six-speaker audio setup.
Toyota GR86 Yuzu under the hood
In terms of the new GR86 Yuzu’s inner workings, you’ll find that Brembo Brakes take braking to another level, with the red-painted Brembo 4-piston front and 2-piston rear brake calipers clamping down on smooth-surfaced 12.8 x 1.3-in front rotors, with 12.4 x .79-in rotors in the back.
At the same time, SACHS Dampers – filled with high-pressure nitrogen and oil – offer additional stability by absorbing vibrations across a wide range of speeds and maximizing ground contact, thus facilitating firm, stable steering, while balancing road feedback and comfort.
The 2026 model vehicle will arrive in three grades – GR86, GR86 Premium, and the GR86 Yuzu edition. They will all provide a selection of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission and a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder boxer engine packing 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
It peaks at 3,700 RPM and delivers zero-to-60 acceleration in 6.1 seconds for the 6-speed manual transmission and 6.6 seconds for the electronically controlled automatic transmission (ECT-i) – both equipped with a Torsen limited-slip rear differential for better traction around corners.
Meanwhile, the chassis is a mix of high-strength steel, hot-stamped steel, and aluminum. In the front, diagonal cross members and high-strength fasteners bring the frame and suspension together. In the back, a full ring structure and high-strength fasteners link the frame and suspension mounts.
It should also be noted that all GR86 models are exceptionally light and easy to control, weighing just 2,811 pounds for the manual, and 2,851 pounds for the automatic transmission model, featuring an aluminum hood, front fenders, and roof panel, and using the ever-lighter structural adhesives in the frame and seats.
Other details
Finally, all the new models include an anti-theft system with engine immobilizer and alarm, and Toyota’s Star Safety System with vehicle stability control (VSC), traction control (TRAC), anti-lock brake system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), brake assist (BA), smart stop technology (SST), track mode, and hill start assist control (HAC), and an active safety suite.
In automatic transmission models, the latter entails the pre-collision braking system, pre-collision throttle management, adaptive cruise control, lead vehicle start alert, rear sonar warning, lane departure warning with sway warning, and automatic high beams.
At the same time, manual transmission models have a pre-collision braking system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure and sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, and automatic high beams.
All the models have seven airbags as a standard, including a driver’s knee airbag, whereas you can also add lower anchors and tethers for children (LATCH) with lower anchors on outboard rear seats and tether anchors on all rear seats, as well as a tire pressure monitor system (TPMS).
Elsewhere, Toyota last month made headlines after it launched its all-new Crown Estate model in Japan (in hybrid and plug-in hybrid models), as part of its mission to “make ever-better cars,” marking the beginning of the SUV’s sales in this particular market.
