Updated on January 2 2025: Cybertruck bomber identified as 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Reports say that he has experience in military special operations forces, but no reason has been given for his action yet.
The explosion is seen in a video shared by Disclose TV on 1 January, most likely recorded by an eye witness of the event.
In the video, sirens can be heard blaring and parts of the truck can be seen exploding as it continued to burn. There’s no report of any casualties in the truck or in the surrounding.
What happened
Tesla is the leading electric vehicle maker in the United States and one of the top in the world. The company’s cars, like other electric vehicles, have been touted to be highly safe.
This raises the question of how the explosion could have happened. The Cybertruck is considered one of the safest electric vehicles, defying several situations that would destroy any other vehicle.
Interestingly, there have been a few other cases of the vehicle exploding without any explanations.
On 31 December 2024, it was reported that one Cybertruck burst into flames at the DeKalb County Tesla dealership.
While firefighters promptly put out the fire, no explanation has been given on the mysterious fires resulting from Cybertruck explosions.
The way out
At the moment, there’s no information on what model of Cybertruck is exploding, and what may be the cause of the unfortunate incidents.
However, Tesla may need to look into it and take necessary action — including issuing a recall before more cases are recorded — to maintain the reputation of the prestigious vehicle.
Although the company has issued a recall for Cybertrucks in 2024, the reason had nothing to do with a fire, but was instead an issue with the drive inverter which could lead to loss of power.
