Top messaging application, Telegram has introduced new features that allow gift sharing and enable businesses to verify their customers’ phone numbers.
The leading communication software announced the launch of the new features in a blog post on 5 September. Other improvements to the application include video chats, improved content reporting, and live streaming for Android.
Share gifts and verify phone numbers
The new gift-sharing feature allows Telegram users to send gifts to their friends. The receivers of the gifts can then decide to display them on their profiles or turn them into stars. They can either use the stars to support their favorite creators or buy services on mini apps.
The gifts are for celebrating special holidays or congratulating users’ contacts with animated artwork and custom messages. Gift senders can choose to display their names when sending gifts, or they can choose to remain anonymous by hiding their names.
Telegram has also made it easier for businesses to verify their customers’ phone numbers at low costs. Going forward, any business, app, or website can send verification codes via the app to verify phone numbers.
According to the company, the codes are faster, cheaper, more secure, and convenient than SMS or other alternatives, and only cost $0.01 per user. Users will receive the codes instantly through the application’s message and are verified immediately.
Other improvements
Telegram has also improved the content reporting interface. This improvement makes it easy for the social platform’s moderators to process reports from users about violators of group terms and conditions.
With this improvement, the reporting menu now contains more detailed options for each category. There are also more varied reporting reasons, allowing users to suggest the most relevant reasons for reporting any content.
The platform has also improved video chats on iOS by rebuilding from scratch to improve performance and battery life.
On Android, Telegram has enabled livestreaming with RTMP. This allows users to generate a stream key, and connect their video feeds to popular apps like OBS Studio and XSplit Broadcaster.
