Strategy Could Become the First Company With 1 Million Bitcoin
In Brief
- • Strategy targets 1M BTC holdings by 2028.
- • The plan requires massive ongoing capital raises.
- • Bitcoin holding above $80K supports the strategy.
Strategy could become the first company in history to hold 1 million Bitcoin — and Michael Saylor just put the math on screen for everyone to see.
Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, unveiled a capital-raising programme designed to push its holdings toward a 1 million Bitcoin milestone by the end of 2026.
The slide shared during a live Zoom session tells the story without ambiguity — BTC holdings growing from 673K in 2025 to 853K in 2026, 952K in 2027, and 1.06 million by 2028. The trajectory is not a projection. It is a plan.

The Numbers Behind the Ambition
Strategy currently holds 761,068 BTC — roughly 3.6% of Bitcoin’s total fixed supply.
To reach 1 million coins by year-end, the firm must maintain a purchasing velocity of nearly $540 million per week through December 2026.
That requires approximately $22.2 billion in additional capital.
Strategy plans to finance the expansion through a combination of “Stretch” (STRC) perpetual preferred shares and at-the-market equity offerings.
The Saylor slide adds more detail — a 30% BTC annual return rate assumption, 20% BTRC issuance, an 11% dividend rate, and a 1.5-year USD reserve.
The model projects 12.2% annual BTC yield and a target of 276K Bitcoin per share by 2028.
Saylor has framed price dips as opportunities — moments to lower the company’s cost basis through strategic accumulation rather than reasons to pause.
Reading the Tape While Saylor Keeps Buying
Bitcoin trades at $80,473 — up 8.9% over the past 30 days and up 1.0% over the past 7 days according to CoinGecko.

The 30-day chart tells the full recovery story. Bitcoin climbed from a low near $74K in mid-April, pushed through $78K by end of April.
It reached $82K in the first days of May, then consolidated between $79K and $82K through mid-May. It is holding above $80K as of this writing.
The 7-day chart gives a tighter read. Bitcoin ranged between $79K and $82K all week.
There was a sharp dip to $79K on May 14 — likely triggered by Iran-related macro headlines — followed by a swift recovery back above $80K within hours.

The recovery was faster than the drop. That sequence matters. It signals that buyers are positioned at this level.
They are not waiting for a better entry. They are defending the floor.
The $80,000 level has now been tested multiple times across multiple weeks. Each time it held.
Each failed breakdown adds weight to the support. Strategy’s average cost basis sits at approximately $75,696 per Bitcoin.
At $80,473, the firm’s entire treasury is in profit. Every dollar Bitcoin moves higher increases the unrealized gain on 761,068 coins — and adds conviction to the case for buying more.
What Happens When One Company Owns 5% of Bitcoin?
Saylor has publicly stated his goal of acquiring 5% of Bitcoin’s total supply — a level that would require roughly 1 million BTC.
Supporters describe the programme as a powerful vote of confidence in Bitcoin’s long-term value.
No single entity has ever held this much of a fixed-supply monetary asset in recorded financial history.
If Strategy reaches 1 million Bitcoin before anyone else — what does that moment actually mean for the asset and the idea of decentralisation itself?
