Over $16 Trillion in Payments Could Reach Onchain Rails — Chainlink Is Behind the Connection
A major bridge between traditional banking and blockchain settlement is taking shape. Bottomline, a Top 3 Swift service provider that moves more than $16 trillion in payments annually, has launched Global Pay Connect, a payments connectivity platform designed to support traditional and emerging blockchain-based payment networks.

Bringing Banks Onto New Rails
The Global Pay Connect platform is designed to give financial institutions a practical way to connect existing payment systems with emerging payment technologies.
Rather than requiring institutions to rebuild their infrastructure, Bottomline says the platform provides a single connectivity layer for traditional, real-time, and blockchain-based payment networks.
Bottomline has also announced a strategic collaboration with Chainlink to explore proof-of-concept opportunities for connecting traditional payment infrastructure with emerging blockchain networks.
Chainlink’s interoperability technology could therefore become part of the infrastructure linking established financial systems with onchain networks.
Market Reaction Stays Muted
Chainlink is currently trading near $11.26, down roughly 3% over the past week.
The token has drifted lower from levels above $12 and has yet to show a strong response to the Bottomline announcement.

This is not unusual. Infrastructure partnerships of this type can take time to translate into measurable transaction activity, particularly when broader market sentiment is soft.
Why the Partnership Carries Weight
Swift remains central to cross-border banking, and Bottomline says 15% of international cross-border Swift traffic is sent over its rails.
The company also processes around 10 million payments and transactions daily through its SaaS services.
That scale makes the Chainlink collaboration notable. If proof-of-concept work eventually develops into production deployments, blockchain connectivity could become part of the infrastructure available to financial institutions already using Bottomline’s payment systems.
Chainlink’s official metrics show the broader scale of its infrastructure, with $34.18 trillion in transaction value enabled and $24.12 billion in cumulative CCIP transfer volume as of September 2026. citeturn0search6
What Comes Next
The collaboration expands Chainlink’s potential reach into traditional financial infrastructure.
Whether it translates into meaningful onchain transaction volume will depend on the outcome of the proof-of-concept work and whether financial institutions move from connectivity to active blockchain settlement.
For now, the development represents a concrete step toward connecting established payment infrastructure with blockchain-based networks — with Chainlink positioned as one of the technologies involved in that transition.
