OpenAI has released the ChatGPT desktop app for Windows and is now available for all users worldwide.
The company announced this in a tweet on 14 November, stating that the desktop app gives users faster access to ChatGPT.
It also comes with the Advanced Voice Mode to chat with users’ computers, giving them access to hands-free answers while they work.
How it works
The new desktop app gives users easier access to ChatGPT. Instead of going online, users can simply Open ChatGPT from any screen on their desktop with the keyboard shortcut, that is, Alt + Space on Windows.
The Advanced Voice Mode on desktop allows users to chat with the chatbot and get answers on the go while they work, allowing for multitasking and preventing distractions.
Another notable feature of this desktop app is the ability to take screenshots. Users can now instantly take screenshots and insert them into their chats.
With the snipping tool, they can choose to screenshot a window, the entire screen, or a custom region.
The app didn’t only come with superb features but also brought some bug fixes. The first bug fixed is where the “Open in main window” button didn’t appear in empty Companion Windows.
Secondly, the sidebar and conversation view have been redesigned to compress more neatly in small window layouts, making it more convenient to use.
Working to improve ChatGPT
OpenAI has been making efforts to improve ChatGPT as well as the use of generative AI in general. It had earlier rolled out the desktop app for Mac computers, and now for Windows.
Just last month, the company introduced a new benchmark for measuring the factuality of language models, with a focus on giving factually correct answers to short and direct questions.
