OpenAI Pilots Group Messaging Feature Within ChatGPT Interface

OpenAI is testing group messaging in ChatGPT to enable easy collaboration with other people and the chatbot. The feature can be used for any group collaboration with friends, family, or coworkers to make decisions or deliberate on ideas together.

In a press release today, OpenAI said the pilot test is being rolled out for users on Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans in Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and Taiwan.

The feature will also be available both on mobile and web for logged-in ChatGPT users before the full release.

ChatGPT Enhancing Collaboration

ChatGPT has added several new features recently, but this is the first time it is bringing a feature that supports collaboration between people.

With the group chat feature, users can now collaborate with other people and also ChatGPT to share and brainstorm ideas. The chatbot can help with destinations, build an itinerary, and create a packing list for a trip for example.

ChatGPT’s responses in groups are powered by ChatGPT 5 Auto, which has been trained in social behaviors specifically for group chats.

To enhance privacy and confidentiality, ChatGPT creates a copy of the previous conversations when a new member is added to the group and creates a clean slate so that they have no idea what happened prior to their invitation.

ChatGPT Pioneering Group Chats

Top AI chatbots have emerged with similar features, but ChatGPT is being set apart with the new group chat feature as the first to introduce such a feature.

By giving users the ability to come together with others and hold discussions, the chatbot now offers more than just giving coaches great tactical advice.

However, OpenAI has also gotten its fair share of criticisms. The company recently revealed plans to eventually introduce ads in ChatGPT, sparking backlash from users.
