Nvidia blames Biden’s ‘AI Diffusion’ Rule for U.S.’ slow tech growth

Leading chip and AI company Nvidia has blamed the Biden administration’s ‘AI Diffusion Rule for holding the country back in tech innovation.

The company in a statement on 13 January said the first Trump administration set the stage for the U.S.’ AI advancement making it a potential leader in the industry, but the ‘AI Diffusion’ Rule has put this progress in jeopardy.

Looking forward to better policies

The Biden administration recently announced a framework called the ‘Export Control Framework for AI Diffusion’ to control the sharing of AI technologies with other countries.

While this framework is purportedly an ‘anti-China’ measure, Nvidia says it will not help in enhancing U.S. security in any way, but threaten America’s position as the global tech leader.

“While cloaked in the guise of an “anti-China” measure, these rules would do nothing to enhance U.S. security.  The new rules would control technology worldwide, including technology that is already widely available in mainstream gaming PCs and consumer hardware. Rather than mitigate any threat, the new Biden rules would only weaken America’s global competitiveness, undermining the innovation that has kept the U.S. ahead.”

AI has found applications in various sectors of the U.S. economy, including healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing, education, etc., due to its usefulness.

The new rule will hinder top players in the industry from sharing their technologies with the world as a result of bureaucratic control on exports, thus stopping, if not reversing these adoptions.

As the rules cannot be implemented until after 120 days, Nvidia looks forward to the new Trump administration for better policies that will strengthen AI and technological growth in general.

Making headway in AI

Nvidia has been a leader in the AI and chip industry for long and continues to expand its capacity. Little wonder the new rule is a major concern to the company.

It recently announced plans to build specialized computers for humanoid robots, which is a major turning point for its robotic future.
