Microsoft is adding AI to Notepad on Windows 11. The new feature allows users to rewrite content, change tone and length, among other possibilities.
According to a tweet on 7th November, the Azure service processes the content and sends the generated text back to you, but it does not save the content, thus ensuring privacy and security of users’ data.
Testing AI in Notepad
The new feature is possible through the addition of Copilot AI to Notepad. With it, users can now create content using generative AI on Windows 11.
It is however in the testing phase and is available only to a few testers for now. Tagged “Rewrite in Notepad,” the feature lets you rewrite your existing content, but cannot create content from scratch yet.
This means that it can only be used to improve existing content powered by an AI model known as GPT. Users can use it to rewrite sentences and change tone, to make the content sound more formal, casual, etc., as well as change the format depending on what they want.
To use AI rewrite, users need to sign into your Microsoft account and go through authentication. It offers limited free use based on a “Credits” system, and users have to subscribe to Copilot Pro or wait for a month after they exhaust their credits.
Improving Windows 11
Microsoft released the 2024 Windows 11 update last month and it was faced with a lot of mixed feelings. Users complained about several of its features, which clearly showed that the update is not so popular.
However with this AI rewrite feature added to it, users may now have something positive to use with the Windows 11 update. The feature isn’t widely available yet, so it remains to be seen what users think about it.
