One of Meta’s social media platforms, Instagram has launched a new video editing app known as Edits.
In a video announcement on 19 January, head of Instagram Adam Mosseri said the app is a way of supporting creators and video editors “no matter what.”
The app is primarily for those who make and edit short form videos on their phones, providing an easy place for making quick TikTok and other videos.
A full suite of video features
More than a video editing tool, Edits comes with a whole lot of features, making it the complete package for creators.
It has a dedicated page for inspiration and a place for storing up ideas you may wish to revisit at a later time to develop.
The app also comes with a higher quality camera that enables users to record crisp videos right on their mobile phones. It also makes it possible for you to share your video drafts with other creators and share ideas.
Of course, the app allows users to share videos on Instagram, with lots of options and features to explore for this purpose.
While the app is yet to launch, Instagram is working with some creators to use their feedback to improve it ahead of next month’s availability. iOS users can pre-order the app already, while that of Android is underway and soon to roll out.
Rivalling TikTok?
The announcement of Edits is coming at a time when TikTok is battling a ban from the U.S. This makes it look like it is a competition against the Chinese short video app, which has over 170 million U.S. users.
However with the ability to only make short videos on mobile phones, this tool may be what TikTok users need, rather than a rival.
