Metaplanet just moved 3,000 BTC in barely a day, and the pace alone is what’s drawing attention.
On-chain data from Arkham’s MetaPlanet entity page (August 28, 2026) shows 15 separate transfers from Metaplanet-linked wallets into Coinbase Prime custody addresses between roughly 23 hours ago and just one hour ago, worth a combined $237.4 million at the time of transfer.

No single move was unusual on its own. The cumulative total is what stands out.
The Transfers, Broken Down
The deposits ranged from small housekeeping-sized moves, like a 4 BTC transfer worth $318,010, up to a 771 BTC block worth $61.64 million, all routed to the same Coinbase Prime custody address.
A handful of transfers also passed through a Metaplanet cold wallet before reaching Coinbase, suggesting some of the coins were pulled from longer-term storage rather than sent straight from a hot wallet.
The pattern matches Metaplanet’s disclosed treasury management approach, which has moved Bitcoin into Coinbase Prime in similar batches multiple times this month.
Custody Isn’t the Same as a Sale
Coinbase Prime offers institutional trading, financing, and custody services, not just an order book, as Coinbase’s Prime documentation outlines.
A deposit there can precede a sale, but it can just as easily reflect collateral posting, over-the-counter settlement, or a straightforward custody upgrade. Metaplanet’s overall position hasn’t shrunk on paper.
The firm’s most recent treasury disclosure still shows roughly 43,000 BTC on its balance sheet at an average cost of about $96,191 per coin, a premium that puts the position underwater at current prices even after this week’s rally.
Bitcoin’s Backdrop This Week
Bitcoin traded at $77,609.08 on the weekly chart as of 07:54 UTC on August 29, 2026, down 0.35% for the week.
The token sits well inside its weekly Bollinger Bands, with the upper band at $84,068.41 and the midline near $69,845.66, leaving room before price tests resistance.

The RSI Divergence Indicator reads 56.54, climbing out of a bullish divergence flagged near recent lows after a stretch of bearish divergence readings through 2024 and 2025, a shift that lines up with Bitcoin’s broader recovery off its summer bottom.
What This Signals Going Forward
Techgaged previously reported that corporate Bitcoin treasury demand has grown increasingly concentrated, with Strategy alone driving nearly all net treasury buying while most other public holders sat on the sidelines.
Techgaged also flagged the broader pattern of firms expanding their balance-sheet BTC positions even through choppy price action, a trend Metaplanet has leaned into aggressively as Asia’s largest corporate holder.
Given Metaplanet’s repeated custody transfers this month without any matching drop in its reported 43,000 BTC total, this looks more like collateral or custody restructuring ahead of a strategic move, possibly tied to its pending Superplanet transaction, than the start of a liquidation.
