Mercedes-Benz has enabled the direct purchasing of e-vignettes for German customers through the Mercedes-Benz Store from their vehicles.
The company revealed this in a press release on 15 May, saying the measure was meant to increase convenience and reduce time wasted at stops at road borders and queues at payment areas.
Users can now comfortably purchase and pay for e-Vignettes for Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, and Hungary, with more supported countries planned.
An easy task
E-vignettes are toll tickets used to pay for toll taxes online so that drivers don’t have to stop at tolls on the road, regardless of the countries they go to.
Mercedes-Benz has made this easy and convenient so that their customers can access this service right in their vehicles in just a few steps.
To get the e-vignettes, customers need to open the Mercedes-Benz Store in the vehicle’s infotainment system. Next, they’ll proceed to the e-Vignettes section, where the countries for which an e-Vignette can be purchased are displayed.
They can then select the destination country and duration, and if not already stored, the license plate is added.
Finally, they can complete the purchase with two-factor authentication either via the fingerprint sensor in the vehicle or via smartphone.
Once the payment is debited from the provided card information, they can then view the purchased e-Vignette by clicking on e-Vignettes in the infotainment system. They will also receive an email with the receipt and the e-vignette.
While travelling through the country, automatic checks will find that the license plate has purchased the e-vignettes and the vehicle will not be stopped.
Expanding range of digital services
Mercedes-Benz has been rolling out several digital products and services to improve user experience for their customers lately.
The buying of e-vignettes from the Mercedes-Benz store is one of the most critical so far, and the latest addition to refueling, charging, and parking transactions.
