A member of the U.S. congress, Rep Majorie Taylor Greene has protested the TikTok ban in the U.S. on grounds of stealing users’ data.
Greene, who represents Georgia’s 14th District in a tweet on January 19 said many apps steal users’ data not just TikTok, so the platform cannot be singled out and banned for alleged stealing of data.
She also voted against the ban, although the ban received the support of an overwhelming majority and got enforced.
Not a good way to challenge China
The U.S. government has for long suspected TikTok of being affiliated to the Chinese communist party, and claims that the social platform was feeding China information about the U.S.
TikTok has however denied this allegation several times, saying it was only a business with over 170 million Americans using it. The enforced ban was clearly a move intended to reduce China’s influence on the U.S., but Green doesn’t think it’s the right move.
In fact, she sees the ban as a violation of the rights of Americans, and claims that the Biden administration has violated the rights of Americans severally in the past and the TikTok ban is just one of them.
“The Democrats violated your rights on every level for the past 4 years through Covid lockdowns, social media censorship, forced vaccines, political lawfare, and disgusting trans propaganda taught in your children’s schools.”
Indeed, a look across the social media space shows that many Americans missed TikTok. Even though the app is said to have been restored thanks to president-elect Donald Trump, some users still don’t have access yet but can’t wait to be restored.
With the Trump swearing in expected today, the congresswoman says Americans will be liberated from the tyranny of the Democrats, and restoring TikTok to Americans fully will be the beginning of what is to come.
