As the world grows increasingly connected, language is no longer a barrier thanks to translation services like those provided by Google, and now, the handy Google Translate app is getting a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature to make it even more powerful.
Indeed, Google is preparing an innovative AI-powered feature that provides users with more options and deeper insights related to translations, including ways to modify the tone and style, according to a report by Android Authority published on February 27.
Translate’s new AI feature
Specifically, one of the innovations is the ‘Ask a Follow-up’ button, which provides Formal, Casual, Simplify, Rephrase, and Regional Variants modification options, and users can also consult AI-adjusted translations, offer feedback, and receive additional cultural context.
As it happens, pressing the ‘Ask a Follow-up’ button after a conducted translation, will get you supplementary cultural context about the result, alongside insights into the translation’s nuances to help you understand how the AI reached the result.
Furthermore, the Formal, Simplify, Casual, Alternative Translations, Rephrase, Regional Variants, and other options allow you to adjust the translation’s style and tone, and let you see how it changes depending on various settings. There are also further cultural notes, grammar explanations, audio replay, and feedback features.
Meanwhile, the new Translate features are hardly the only AI implementations in Google’s services, others being the advanced high-quality AI image generation model Imagen 3, which was launched in October 2024 through the Gemini app, as Techgaged.com reported at the time.
At the same time, Google expanded the availability of its AI Overviews (previews of a topic or query based on a variety of sources) in Search to more than 100 countries and their languages, making it easier to find information and connect with publishers, businesses, and creators.
