A new study has revealed that less than 1% of electric vehicle owners would like to go back to using gasoline vehicles.
The study conducted by the Global Alliance of EV Divers Association cut across 336,000 EV drivers from over 38 countries and sought to know why EV drivers went electric, the pros and cons of EVs, and whether theyâll go back to fossil vehicles.Â
In general, the outcome suggests that EV drivers enjoy the experience of owning EVs and most would continue to use EVs in the future.
EVs becoming popular
The result shows that 97% of EV drivers are very satisfied with their vehicles, and that most of them went for electric vehicles due to low maintenance cost. Majority of them also said there are no disadvantages with electric vehicles.
Asked what kind of vehicle they would buy if they were to replace their EVs, 92% of respondents said they would replace it with an EV, 4% said they would go for a plug-in hybrid, and less than 1% said they would go back to fossil vehicles, while the rest either donât know or would go for a different option.
Notably, 90% of respondents also agreed that climate change is a major problem, which may be their motivation for buying EVs.
Commenting on the study, Ellen Hiep, board member of the Dutch Electric Vehicle Drivers Association said:
âThis should serve as an eye-opener for policymakers worldwide. While a vibrant electric vehicle market is crucial for reducing climate emissions from road transport, achieving this goal hinges on making EVs an even more affordable option for all.â
Elon Musk backs study
Responding to the result of the study, CEO of Tesla, the worldâs biggest EV maker and seller Elon Musk said electric vehicles will replace gasoline vehicles in the future.
He added that sighting manually-driven cars in the future will be like âriding a horse while using a flip phone. Still happens, but itâs rare.â
