As the automotive industry continues to see new and improved models arriving at car salons everywhere, Land Rover is no exception, enriching its already wide selection of SUVs, particularly the Discovery range, with two new special additions: Tempest and Gemini.
Indeed, the all-wheel drive Discovery vehicle family has welcomed Tempest, which the carmaker referred to as the “most luxurious Discovery ever,” and Gemini, a “thoroughly modern tribute to the ingenious design of the original 1989 Discovery,” according to a press release from May 15.
Discovery Tempest
Specifically, Land Rover Discovery Tempest comes in a choice of three body colors (Charente Grey, Varesine Blue, and Carpathian Grey), all exclusively accompanied by a Matte Protective Film, which is the first time ever that it’s been used on a Discovery.
Furthermore, it features a contrasting Petra Copper Gloss roof finish as standard, also the first time for a Discovery to have this roof color. Optionally, users can select Narvik Gloss Black.
Additionally, a Petra Copper Gloss finish is used for exterior design, including the wing vent, Discovery script, and lower bumper inserts, whereas the 22-inch Diamond Turned Style 5124 alloy wheel design boasts Petra Copper tinted lacquer and Gloss Black detailing. Such a finish is another innovation for Discovery and exclusive to Tempest.
Finally, other details that set Land Rover Discovery Tempest apart from the rest of the crowd include unique badging for the B-pillars, treadplates, puddle lamps, and interior finishers. Aside from that, the cabin has Shadow Aluminium detailing and extended Ebony Windsor leather upholstery.
Discovery Gemini
Meanwhile, Discovery Gemini arrives in six exterior colors, including Sedona Red (a first for Discovery and unique to the Gemini edition), with a Narvik Gloss Black contrast roof. The Gloss Black detailing is also present in the lower body cladding and front wing vents, accompanied by an Atlas Gloss grille surround and Discovery script.
Aside from that, it sports a Gemini-specific graphic on the B-pillar badges, treadplates, and interior finishers with new 21-inch split-seven-spoke Style 7001 alloy wheels finished in Diamond Turned Silver. There’s also a cooler compartment between the front seats, Click & Go media holders for passengers in the back seat, and three-zone climate control.
Both new Discovery models run on the latest Ingenium D350 diesel engine and 48V Mild-Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology, with support for an eight-speed all-wheel drive transmission. Such power allows them to develop 350 PS and 700 Nm of torque.
At the same time, the 3.0-liter (101.44 oz) engine’s mild-hybrid tech harvests and stores energy generated during deceleration and redeploys it toward acceleration, which lets it tow up to 3,500 kilograms (7,716 lbs).
Elsewhere, another innovation cooked up in the Land Rover kitchen comes in the form of the first-ever fully electric Range Rover, which is a 117 kWh, 800 V beast tested in sub-zero conditions of the Arctic Circle and optimized for energy density, range, and charging times.
