Luxury sports car manufacturer Porsche is introducing contactless charging to its EVs, opening the door to new possibilities in automobile charging.
においてである。 プレスリリース on 4 September, the company said it will start testing the new technology with the new, all-electric generation of the Cayenne and spread to others eventually.
Spearheading wireless charging
Porsche will be the first automaker to bring an 11 kW charging system with a one-box base plate for battery-electric vehicles to market. The efficiency of energy transfer from the power grid to the battery reaches up to 90 percent, reaching new levels of efficiency.
With the technology, users only need the floor plate which is mounted at the parking lot, with no need for a wallbox or control unit, which makes car charging much easier.
The Wireless Charging feature is integrated into the My Porsche App, making it possible to track the charging processes and several vehicles can be authenticated.
Dr. Michael Steiner, Deputy Chairman and Member of the Executive Board, Research and Development said:
“Ease of use, suitability for everyday use and charging infrastructure are still the decisive factors when it comes to the acceptance of electric mobility. We are proud that inductive charging will soon be available in series production at Porsche. Charging an electric car at home has never been so easy and convenient.”
Sales of the floor plates will start at Porsche Centers and online in the Porsche Shop starting in 2026. However, Porsche has displayed a prototype with fluorescent paint that demonstrates the innovative technology, while the world premiere of the new Cayenne Electric is planned for the end of 2025.
New possibilities for fast charging
Electric charging has become very popular as many car owners are now turning to electric vehicles.
However, charging stations have their limitations such as fixed spots, which makes it more difficult to charge on the go.
Porsche users who wish to travel quickly can now rely on the plates with very high charging capacity with the Cayenne, which sets new standards with the DC charging power said to be up to 400 kW.
