China has launched the world’s largest amphibious assault ship in demonstration of its military might.
Named Sichuan, the gigantic vessel was 打ち上げ on 27 December in an elaborate ceremony at the Hudong Shipyard in Shanghai.
The ship can function both as an amphibious landing ship and aircraft carrier, giving the Chinese military a great boost and placing it ahead of competitions.
China’s military development
China is investing hugely in its military, and this amphibious ship launch is proof. The Type 076 vessel is an upgrade from the older three Type 075 ships currently operated by the People’s Liberation Army.
The development is coming in the face of rising tension around China, thus raising suspicion that it could be in preparation ahead of combat with Taiwan.
China has had tension with Taiwan for some time now, and has launched two major military drills around Taiwan this year alone, which suggests preparation towards a full-scale attack, according to the BBC.
The Chinese military is also reportedly building a new fighter jet, the prototypes of which were seen being tested in Shenyang and Chengdu.
With these innovations, China is working to stay ahead of rival nations in anticipation of any combat in the future as tension continues to grow around the world.
Not only military
China is making progress in many aspects of its economy, not just in military technology. Recent reports show that it has become the first country in the world to make 10 million electric vehicles in one year.
This places China ahead of the world’s biggest economies like the U.S. and Europe which are competitors in the EV market.
It is anticipated that the country’s EV sales will surpass that of gasoline vehicles in 2025, as almost half of it’s automobile sales is currently electric.
