A number of Instagram users have reported their group messages getting labelled as “Edited with Meta AI.”
They raised the issue on 13 February, saying for some time now, posts in Instagram groups have carried the label and Google AI says this means the messages were edited with AI.
Interestingly, only some members of the group get to see the “Edited with Meta AI” label, which raises questions of how the algorithm determines who sees it.
An attempt at censorship?
It is not clear why messages in groups are getting such labels for some Instagram users and not for others, and also why it does not happen when users directly respond to each other.
However, some may attribute this to an attempt at censoring messages in such groups, at least for some users who may have certain settings turned on.
For most users, the issue has been with text messages, but for others, it has also affected photos and voice messages as well.
Whatever it is, this is just one of the weird ways that Meta social platforms have been acting lately.
Just this week, Facebook has been accused of removing older accounts in a move that seems they’re looking for younger users to replace the older ones with.
The platform has also been reported to spam groups with explicit content including bestiality videos spread by bots.
Meta needs to act
The issues being reported concerning Meta social platforms suggest that the algorithms of these platforms may be out of shape, and Meta needs to act fast to make things right.
Some people say the issues started when the company decided to depend heavily on AI instead of humans to work on the algorithm.
Meanwhile, Instagram recently launched a short video feature that allows users to make and edit short videos right on the app.
