An Iranian company has unveiled a wound dressing that accelerates healing and leaves no scars behind.
A local news outlet reported on 3 March that the dressing which is made of biodegradable material is used for the treatment of superficial wounds and 1st and 2nd degree burns.
Known as Fiberden, the product will be available in the next Iranian calendar year starting 21 March.
A first of its kind
Notably, FiberDen is the first of its kind in Iran and most parts of the world. The vice-presidency for science, technology, and knowledge-based economy, said the company is one of the pioneers and first producers of pharmaceutical nanocarriers in the country in the field of producing innovative pharmaceutical products.
About 500,000 of the newly-developed product will be produced in the country annually. Chief executive of the company said:
“FiberDen dressing contains biodegradable polymers and nanocurcumin, which is an ideal option for rapid healing of superficial wounds and first- and second-degree burns, because it ‘FiberDen’ has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory features that can help repair tissues rapidly”
With gradual release properties, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and strong tissue repair effects for the rapid healing of superficial wounds and 1st and 2nd degree burns, it can be used to treat wounds faster than conventional means.
The biodegradable capability of the dressing provides a scaffold-like structure to replace the proliferating cells of the new tissue, which largely prevents the formation of scars and is absorbed at the same time as the wound heals.
Iran making progress in health
Iran has been up and doing in the health sector recently, producing pharmaceutical products to ensure self-reliance in terms of health.
Just recently, the country announced plans to release a locally made cancer vaccine for its teeming population of cancer patients in summer this year. This makes the country one of the first few to produce cancer vaccines in the world.
