iOS users have protested the decision to introduce ads to Apple Maps, allowing businesses to boost visibility by paying for it.
The users reacted to the news on 16 February, where it was stated that the company is considering this option, similar to Google maps, a plan the company first considered in 2022.
Most of those who responded to the news said they would go back to the use of Android rather than pay for premium service and get ads.
An unwelcome decision
Apple has introduced many new things lately, ranging from upgrading Apple Intelligence to introducing Apple invites. However, the decision to bring ads to Apple Maps is unwelcome judging from the responses.
Although the news says that the advertising model will display paid ads instead of banner ads such as are seen on websites, the users still consider it unnecessary considering it is a paid service they are using.
One of them who commented said:
“If they show ads then Apple is no different than Android at a premium. If they show ads I’ll just switch my family to Android and save money lol. Like this is the most simple choice for me. I pay more for no ads.”
Granted, this will reward Apple shareholders as the ads will be spread across millions of iOS users. But what about the interest of the Apple users who paid to avoid ads?
While some blamed Tim Cook for the “increasing revenue and declining quality”, some said it isn’t his fault as he’s simply following Wall Street orders.
“Basically any tech company that goes public ends up having to always sustain profits and growth for shareholders to the detriment of customers.”
Apple’s declining quality
Apple has received much criticism recently indeed, as the services it offers seem to be declining in quality.
Just recently, its customers criticized the new Siri update, calling it ChatGPT and referring to Image Playground as an app for kids due to the poor quality of services.
