An 18-year old TikTok user has cried out that the app has stopped him from sending messages to his 17-year old girlfriend.
In a Reddit post on 10 February, the user said he was sending messages to his girlfriend all night but all of a sudden, the messages couldn’t go through and he got a popup saying “you cannot chat with this user at this time”
What went wrong
In the post, the user asked if anyone had an idea what was happening. Apparently, no one in his circle knew what was going on, but some had experienced similar incidents.
One said it could be age restrictions, which shouldn’t be because he was 18. However, another 16-year old had experienced a similar incident. He wrote:
“I’m 16, what the app allows as all privileges. Did a age verification and the app thinks I’m 12. All my shit is locked now. Prob smth similar”
Another user wrote:
“Y’all this happened to me and I’m in my 30s. They did a refresh I think when the app went dark so it may have flagged some accounts.”
The hassle with TikTok
TikTok users have been complaining about issues with the app, ranging from deleted replies to outright ban of accounts for no clear reasons.
Just recently, users reported a massive censorship of comments on the platform, many of which were neither derogatory nor partisan.
Some have also alleged that the Chinese social media app seems to be favoring Republican views since Donald Trump became the U.S. president.
So far, TikTok is not fully available to users in the U.S., unless they already have it on their phones. It is still not clear why the app hasn’t been restored or when it will be restored.
