Honda has unveiled the world’s first motorcycle with a V3 engine and electrical compressor at EICMA 2024 in Italy.
The top automaker in a blog post on 5th November said the extremely slim and compact water-cooled 75-degree V3 engine is being newly developed for larger displacement motorcycles.
Pioneering electrical compressors for motorcycles
The new motorcycle features the world’s first electrical compressor for motorcycles, and has several advantages.
First, it can control compression of the intake air irrespective of engine rpm, which enables it to deliver high-response torque with low rpm.
In addition, the electrical compressor allows the design to maximize the use of space so that all component parts are conveniently laid out within the small space, especially because it doesn’t need an intercooler.
Although the new design is a challenging task, Honda sees the development of a V3 engine with an electrical compressor as a way of giving customers the thrill of owning and riding an electric motorcycle.
The company will proceed with mass production, and plans to apply the technology to larger displacement models in the future.
Moving towards electric vehicles
Automakers worldwide have been moving more towards building electric vehicles, and Honda isn’t left behind.
Already, it has produced electric cars just like most automakers, and is now the first to build an electric motorcycle.
This is a big step taken towards making Honda a top leader in the electric vehicle industry. Hopefully other automakers will follow suit and also start making electric motorcycles in the future.
With its advancement in electric technology though, Honda still records some faults in their gasoline models.
The company recently recalled over 800,000 vehicles due to a fault with the fuel pump which can increase the risk of a fire.
