As the drama around Google Search AI overview heats up, an employee of Google has said the company doesn’t care.
The employee while responding to a petition against the feature on 12 March said the petition will not go anywhere because the company isn’t ready to make any changes to improve the results.
Google employees hate AI overviews
A group of Google users put up a petition on 11 March to protest the bad results that AI overviews in search bring.
They are demanding that Google make it optional to use the feature rather than the default as it currently is, because it is affecting the performance of creators.
However, responding to the petition, a Redditor who claims to be a Google employee said 80% of Google employees also hate the feature and despite several complaints to the management, nothing has been done.
Other Redditors also advised the petitioner to just change his browser or shout curses at the browser to turn it off, as the petition won’t be noticed by Google due to its low number of signatures.
At the time of reporting, the petition only has 15 signatures after roughly 72 hours, indicating that there’s low interest in it.
Will AI overviews get better?
Google created AI overviews to help users access useful information easily without having to follow links. However, the performance has been far less than the expectation.
Some people say it will improve with use and feedback as other AI services do, but as Google isn’t making any effort to improve it, this may take a while.
Meanwhile, the company has released a new AI model known as Gemini Robotics which is designed for use in robots that can assist with daily activities in the home.
Hopefully, the robotic model will work better than what is currently witnessed with AI overviews to ensure the robots function well.
