Finnish automotive technology startup Distance Technologies has closed a €10M seed round led by Google Ventures (GV). The company closed the seed round on 24 September following unprecedented excess interest from investors.
A press release by the company reveals that the closure is coming only three months after Distance Technologies closed another $2.7m in pre-seed funding. Other investors that supported the €10M seed round include FOV Ventures and Maki.vc.
Pioneering mixed reality
Distance Technologies is a pioneer in glasses-free mixed reality designed for car windows and aircraft cockpits. It is also known for empowering users with contextual AI, making it a leader in the AI revolution as well.
Using a computer-generated 3D light compatible with the real world, Distance can easily transform any transparent surface into a glasses- and headset-free window, giving users next-generation mixed reality experience.
The technology does not require users to wear anything on their face or body, as it offers an infinite per-pixel depth covering the entire field to give the best immersion experience.
With Distance’s groundbreaking per-pixel optical depth capability, onlookers can see mixed reality content that look natural with perfect clarity on windscreens or windows.
More interestingly, users don’t need a headset, a phone, a pin, a device, or glasses to enjoy the mixed reality. Mixed reality content may include a wide range of situational analyses and location-specific information for any coordinate or location.
According to Principal at GV Roni Hiranand,
“Distance offers an open ecosystem, allowing manufacturers and integrators to supercharge the fusion of the physical and digital worlds in various applications. We’ve been impressed with how fast the team has moved to develop the technology, and we’re thrilled to support them as they look to deploy across these critical sectors.”
Growing adoption of mixed reality
Mixed reality is the combination of a real-world environment and a computer-generated one. This combination brings an immersive 3d interaction between humans, computers, and the environment.
This technology finds applications in several areas, including gaming, design, entertainment, and many others. With the growing popularity of AI and immersive technology, Distance could be well on its way to achieving the goal of bringing mixed reality to everyone.
