- Google denied rumors that its Gemini chatbot will introduce ads, stating there’s no such plans.
- The speculation emerged amid separate ad-related concerns surrounding ChatGPT.
- Google’s swift clarification may bolster Gemini’s reputation at a time when ChatGPT is losing users’ trust.
Following the circulation of rumors that Google intends to introduce ads in its Gemini chatbot, the company has denied such allegations. The tech giant warned that any such rumor emanates from inaccurate anonymous sources and should be disregarded.
Vice President of Global Ads at Google, Dan Taylor denied the rumor in response to a tweet claiming that Google will open the door to advertising in 2026 on Gemini, the company’s leading AI chatbot. He added that Google has not approved ads on Gemini and there are no plans to do that in the foreseeable future.
ChatGPT Rumor Sparks Ad Allegations
The rumor about Google allowing ads on Gemini did not start in isolation, it began with a similar rumor for ChatGPT. Users of the chatbot created by OpenAI discovered some information on the app that suggested possible integration of ads. Screenshots quickly started circulating, arousing suspicion from users.
However, ChatGPT’s case is different because it has a back story. OpenAI had earlier indicated plans to roll out ads on ChatGPT for free users as a way to monetize the large number of users who don’t pay for any plan. Just recently, rumors surfaced that the company had quietly rolled out the ads, which OpenAI has denied.
Google has no documented history of contemplating such a move, so the claims that it intends to introduce ads in 2026 is a bit of a surprise. Gemini is Google’s AI chatbot that has been widely celebrated for its ability to improve several of both Google’s and other products.
While we cannot entirely rule out the possibility of introducing the ads later, for now, the company has succeeded in assuring both free and paid users that it has no intention of introducing ads any time soon.
Gemini Could Win the Chatbot War
There are few things that technology users hate passionately, one of which is ads. With the rumor of ads based on previous indications, ChatGPT has become a suspicious platform that is losing the trust of users fast, because the denial contradicts what users see.
This gives Gemini an edge over the OpenAI chatbot since there was never a disposition towards introducing ads, as well as the swift response to the rumor claiming such. If Gemini succeeds in getting users’ trust, it may soon outshine ChatGPT.
