A new glitch in iPhone’s voice-to-text feature associating U.S. president Donald Trump with the word “racist” has sparked outrage among the president’s supporters.
The glitch which was first reported by a TikTok user on 25 February is said to occasionally bring up the name “Trump” when users shout the word “racist” before changing back to the correct word.
As at the time of reporting, Apple said it was working to fix the glitch which has drawn the attention of many iPhone users.
Apple is aware
An Apple spokesperson said the company is aware of the issue and is working on resolving it.
“We are aware of an issue with the speech recognition model that powers Dictation.”
Interestingly, other iPhone users have tested the feature and found the glitch to be real, raising concerns about political bias by Amazon Alexa, the technology that powers Apple’s voice-to-text feature.
The incident has also generated rage against Apple, as Trump supporters allege that the company hates “MAGA” and the president.
Apple’s chain of backlashes
Apple has come under intense backlash recently as it rolls out new products and improvements to its services.
One of such is the rollout of Siri updates and Image Playground, the AI image generator the company recently added to Apple Intelligence.
iOS users have criticized both updates, referring to Siri as simply another ChatGPT and Image Playground as a substandard feature for children because of the poor quality of images and high censorship.
A user also recently accused the company of building the AI image app with racist biases in the generation of images.
With this new glitch, Apple is facing a fresh wave of criticism and may be making more enemies now than ever.
