If you believe Epic Games unfairly charged you for unwanted purchases in Fortnite, your window to submit a claim is almost over, as eligible claimants have until July 9 to apply for compensation from the FTC’s settlement with Epic Games.
Indeed, Fortnite players might be able to get a part of the settlement if they act quickly after the game’s creator settled claims with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), agreeing to pay $245 million to affected individuals, according to last month’s announcement by the regulator.
As a reminder, accusations emerged of Epic Games using deceptive practices to get players into making unwanted purchases, as well as allowing children to make unauthorized payments without parental or guardian consent, following which the gaming giant settled with the FTC in 2023 and agreed to pay out.
How to file a claim in Fortnite settlement
Back in December last year, the FTC issued the first round of refunds – nearly 630,000 payments totaling over $72 million. As part of the latest round, the agency sent almost 970,000 refunds ($126 million) on June 25 and 26. Now, the deadline for submitting the claims at www.ftc.gov/fortnite is nearly up.
Per the FTC’s website, you may receive a settlement payout if one of the following three statements apply to you:
- Epic Games charged you in-game currency for items you didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022.
- Your child made charges to your credit card without your knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018.
- Your account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you complained to your credit card company about wrongful charges.
If you believe you’re eligible, you can file a claim by completing a form on the above website. Should you receive a check, you’ll need to cash it out within 90 days. In case you received your refund via PayPal, you should redeem it within 30 days, the FTC said.
For any questions about your payment, the refund administrator, Rust Consulting, is available via phone at 1-833-915-0880 or email at admin@fortniterefund.com. Still, you should expect your payment before 2026, after the FTC has reviewed and validated all claims.
Elsewhere, another widely publicized lawsuit settlement involved Apple agreeing to pay out $95 million in the Lopez voice assistant class action settlement over accusations that its voice assistant Siri listened in on private conversations, and affected users had until July 2, 2025, to apply.
