American automaker Ford has introduced a new technology known as Delivery Assist to its commercial vehicle fleet for faster deliveries.
In a press release on 10 February, the company said the Ford Pro Delivery Assist technology automatically turns off the engine, closes windows, locks doors and activates hazard lights when delivery van drivers make stops.
This allows businesses more time to focus on deliveries and not worry about the security of the vehicles.
Preparing for Valentine
Ford’s tech upgrade for its delivery van fleet (Ford Pro) comes just ahead of the Valentine season when high demands for deliveries are usually expected.
With Delivery Assist, delivery drivers can have more time for deliveries as the vehicle basically takes care of itself whenever there is a stop. Commenting, Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro, Europe said:
“Delivery Assist makes the driver’s to-do list shorter, their journeys more comfortable, and can cut seconds from each delivery stop to help them deliver more parcels, faster. It’s good for both our customers and their customers – by taking away lots of tiny tasks we are helping to make a big difference.”
After deliveries, the technology also helps drivers to drive off more easily, as the vehicle can be unlocked using the integral key-free entry system, and pressing the brake pedal restarts the engine and restores the windows to their previous position.
Drivers can also modify its operations to suit their peculiar needs, making it a flexible way of boosting delivery efficiency.
Availability
Currently, Delivery Assist is only available on 2025 E‑Transit and EcoBlue diesel-powered Transit models with automatic transmission.
It will also be available on the all-new E-Transit Custom and automatic transmission-equipped Transit Custom vans. The first customer deliveries are expected from summer 2025.
Ford has been improving its commercial vehicle with new technologies, and Delivery Assist is the latest but definitely not the last.
