Leading American automaker, Ford is recalling over 40,000 cars due to serious problems with software.
Reports say the recall became necessary due faults affecting certain units of two Ford models. The issue referred to as the automatic window reversal feature could have fatal effects if not corrected.
What happened
Most modern vehicles rely heavily on software to function properly. Although problems do not arise most times, they can come up sometimes, which results in the recalling of the affected vehicles.
This time, the software of the affected Ford cars malfunctions such that the hand of a passenger or anything sitting on the left windows can get crushed if the glass starts rising. This is unusual, as window glasses usually stop rising when they meet an obstacle, no matter how light.
Ford is therefore recalling the over 38,000 affected vehicles. Owners of the affected vehicles will receive letters asking them to take their vehicles to authorized dealers who will help to fix them.
The affected car models are first the Ford Everest and secondly the Transit Custom.
Launched in 2003, the Ford Everest is a medium-sized SUV that is popular in Asia, Africa and Australia. The Ford Transit Custom on the other hand is a commercial model that was first launched in 2012 as a more compact version of the Ford Transit.
Check if your vehicle is affected
To check if your vehicle is affected by the recall, you need your VIN number. This is a combination of 17 characters of letters and numbers that serves as the car’s unique “fingerprint”.
The VIN can be found either on the windshield panel visible from outside the vehicle, inside the driver’s door frame, or on the vehicle registration document or insurance card.
