Bethesda’s beloved Fallout 76 has just gotten a major update called Ghoul Within that has brought a bunch of exciting new features to the game, starting with the ability to experience Appalachia as a ghoul changed by the radiation.
Those familiar with the game’s franchise have already met ghouls, and now they can play as one themselves, experiencing new gameplay mechanics, exclusive Perk cards, and a bunch of other new additions, according to Bethesda’s article from March 18.
Specifically, players can undertake the ‘Leap of Faith’ questline, leading to their transformation into a ghoul. As a ghoul, you’ll gain immunity to radiation damage, and radiation exposure will actually increase your maximum health – a mechanic tracked by the new ‘Glow’ system.
Furthermore, you’ll get a Feral Meter, which replaces hunger and thirst mechanics, depletes over time, and which can replenish by consuming Chems. The level on the Feral Meter impacts your player stats, offering bonuses or penalties on the basis of its fill percentage.
What else Ghoul Within brings to the Fallout 76 table
Other exclusive additions include access to 30 new ghoul-specific Perk cards, with abilities like increased melee damage and enhanced V.A.T.S. accuracy.
At the same time, the update marks the beginning of Season 20, called ‘Glow of the Ghoul,’ featuring themed rewards like ghoul-themed cosmetics and C.A.M.P. items such as the ‘Goo-tub’ and ‘Glow of the Ghoul’ movie projector, as well as the new seasonal challenges during which you can earn unique rewards and progress through the ranks.
Additional features include a level 50 character boost that facilitates immediate access to higher-tier content, weapons and Perk adjustments, such as increased base damage for pistols and modifications to certain Perk cards to enhance gameplay variety.
Aside from the ghoulification option (which isn’t necessarily permanent, as you can go back to being human through your Character Screen, but you won’t be able to become a Ghoul again in the current questline), there are quite a few bug fixes and improvements to accessibility, ammo, armor, combat, C.A.M.P., UI, weapons, quests, and other areas.

Meanwhile, it seems to be the season of the update, as another gamers’ sweetheart has received its own big-time refresh- we’re talking about Hearthstone’s Patch 32.0, marking the final preparations for the launch of its upcoming 145-card expansion, Into the Emerald Dream and the Year of the Raptor board.
