Facts or personal agenda: Netizens question Musk’s proposed Wikipedia rival
The internet is abuzz with the news of Elon Musk’s intention to build a Wikipedia rival called Grokipedia that promotes free speech.
Following the announcement on 30 September, some internet users have questioned the intention behind the proposed platform.
For many, Grokipedia is just another platform for pushing personal agenda or an ideology that is just different from Wikipedia.
War of ideologies
Musk first mentioned the intention to build Grokipedia in response to a post alleging that Wikipedia is a platform for left-wing activists who resist correction.
The X user was even more concerned that information from the platform is being used to train AI models, which could influence the outcome in significant ways.
Is there then a guarantee that Grokipedia will not promote Musk’s personal agenda or that of the right? Musk has severally openly criticized left-wing ideas and “wokeness”, so it makes sense to question the intention behind his proposed platform.
Musk says the platform will be “vastly” better than Wikipedia and will be available to the public with no limits on use, but did not mention if it will be unbiased.
However, Musk has been a proponent of free speech which he implemented on X after buying it as Twitter in 2022. The introduction of community notes for example has been applauded as a powerful tool that ensures correctness by bringing perspective.
If Grokipedia also provides a way to verify information like X does, it could become a more reliable source of information devoid of bias, and could steal the show from Wikipedia which has allegedly been taking sides.

Meanwhile, Musk has also cancelled his Netflix subscription in response to “Dead End: Paranormal Park”, a 2022 TV series that pushes trans ideology.
Many other Musk followers and supporters have cancelled their Netflix subscriptions in solidarity, giving an idea of the support that Grokipedia can get if it comes through.
