As it continues to stun the world with its game-changing innovations, Elon Musk’s Neuralink has just posted a major update with a massive new milestone that testifies to how much the neurotechnology company developing implantable brain chips has achieved over the past years.
Indeed, Neuralink has reached another one of its firsts, revealing it has officially completed two implants in a single day, with Patients 8 and 9 both receiving devices over the past weekend, according to the company’s update posted on social media X on July 21.
Although it didn’t say which day of the weekend its team performed the surgeries, it did disclose that they both happened on the same day:
More brain implants, more good to be done
As a reminder, Musk has described his company’s capabilities as potentially doing “life-changing good for ultimately millions, maybe billions of people.” And it’s true, as currently it has a role in helping combat diseases such as ALS – also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease and the theme of the Ice Bucket Challenge from a few years ago.
In addition, it could help address issues like anxiety, depression, and blindness, among many other illnesses, and it has already received the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recognition for speech restoration earlier this year thanks to its Link device.
Meanwhile, Musk’s other businesses are doing great too, as he has recently confirmed wild features for his retro-futuristic cinema, restaurant, and supercharging station – Tesla Supercharger Diner – that has just officially opened in Hollywood, California.
Other than that, Robotaxis by his electric vehicle (EV) company Tesla have already beaten its biggest competitor, Waymo, in an exceptionally important performance metric – size of service area – shortly after hitting the streets in Austin, Texas, all the while making a joke about it with its phallic shape on the map.
