Grok, Elon Musk’s generative AI chatbot on X has had an opportunity to shine as OpenAI reports ChatGPT outage.
OpenAI announced the outage in the early hours of today 12 December on X, saying issues with ChatGPT had been identified and a fix was underway.
This became an opportunity for Grok, which quoted the OpenAI tweet saying “hi everyone, nice to meet you”
A battle of AI chatbots
ChatGPT has been the most popular AI chatbot for a while now. Along the way, other chatbots have emerged, one of which is Grok.
Grok isn’t an independent chatbot as it is integrated with X, which means you need to sign up on X and subscribe for Premium to access it.
However, the X-based chatbot — created by Elon Musk of course — has become quite popular lately as people from different walks of life started experimenting with it to create images and for other uses.
Prior to the ChatGPT outage, there has been a comparison of the two chatbots on X, with users putting their performances side-by-side in different scenarios.
In several of the comparisons, users seem to agree that Grok performs better than ChatGPT for all tasks they asked both bots to do.
With the ChatGPT outage, more users may consider trying out Grok, and that could be detrimental to ChatGPT, even though OpenAI has been making changes to improve it lately.
Is ChatGPT losing it?
ChatGPT has won the hearts of several users, as many say it is now their preferred source of information rather than traditional sources.
Google had even panicked when OpenAI added the search feature to the chatbot, enabling it to function as a search engine.
With Grok’s growing popularity though, is ChatGPT about to lose its widespread fame?
