X owner and billionaire Elon Musk has hinted at the rollout of XChat, a messenger app that will have Bitcoin’s kind of encryption.
In a tweet on 1 June, Musk who’s also the CEO of electric vehicle company Tesla added that the app will be built with Rust and will have everything from ability to send any kind of file to both audio and video calling.
No need for phone numbers
There are several messenger apps in existence already, such as Telegram, WhatsApp, etc. One thing that sets XChat apart however is the fact that users will not require phone numbers to make audio or video calls through it.
This makes it way more user-friendly than these other apps that require a phone number to register and use, meaning it could become a major competition against them.
According to Musk, the app is already under development and will be rolled out this week, if there are no scaling problems.
Musk ventured into social media for the first time with the acquisition of X, formerly known as Twitter for $44 billion in 2022. Since then, he has made several changes to the platform, including longer messages for paid users, as well as the ability to share videos and hold podcasts.
Apparently, he intends to bring similar flexibility to the new messenger app, which is why it could be a big deal. Since 2022, X has become the number one source of news globally, because of the freedom of speech and expression which was not feasible before his takeover.
Undeterred after starship explosion
Musk is also the CEO and chief engineer at space exploration company SpaceX, which just experienced a setback last week with the explosion of a Mega starhip the company was sending into space.
He seems to have dusted himself and is ready to continue his innovation with the new app which many look forward to trying out.
