World’s richest man and X owner Elon Musk has announced that Grok 4 will be released after July 4.
In a tweet on 27 June, the billionaire businessman said he and the xAI team have been working hard to bring about the release of the latest version of Grok.
Competing with OpenAI?
Grok is a chatbot built by xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence company. The chatbot is based on X and works within it to help users generate images, get answers to questions, etc., just like other AI platforms.
Grok went mostly unnoticed for a while, until one time when OpenAI’s ChatGPT glitched and its users were looking for alternatives.
After trying Grok, many of them may have continued using the chatbot for many purposes including video generation, making it a formidable competitor against OpenAI, Google’s Gemini, and others.
Grok 3, the current version of the chatbot went live early this year, and now it is receiving an upgrade to 4, which means it could be coming with more appealing features.
Although OpenAI, the leading AI platform has been upgrading rapidly recently, Grok’s new upgrade may put up a serious competition.
Musk didn’t provide much details on what to expect with the new Grok version, but he did mention that it needs more work to make it a specialized coding model.
Will it be better?
With the announcement, some Grok users are asking if it will be better than Grok 3 or worse, adding that the chatbot was perfect.
“Grok was close to perfect 3-4 months ago. Grok was personable, professional and the information provided was trustworthy. I hope that you were able to capture that @grok in this release.”
With the competition in the AI space, hopefully xAI has received user feedback and is implementing new changes that will make Grok better than it used to be overall.
