In the most recent accidental (or not?) leak that has the entire gaming community abuzz, it seems that an Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake or remaster is close to completion and there are some things that fans noticed before the developer took down the leaked images.
Indeed, a couple of Reddit users, including u/Taurnil and u/majds1, have dug up the leaked screenshots from the website of Virtuos Games, the developer of Elder Scrolls IV, and Bethesda, the original game’s developer, has remained coy, as per information accessed on April 16.
What Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion comeback brings
Based on what we could see from the leaks, the popular 2006 action role-playing game has received an impressive facelift, with developers truly putting Unreal Engine 5 to good work alongside modernized mechanics and elements of Bethesda’s Creation Engine that channel the original’s spirit.
As a reminder, the earliest hint of an Oblivion remake appeared in 2020 in a leaked document from the FTC vs. Microsoft case over the Activision Blizzard King buyout, revealing the remaster plans for FY2022. Although they didn’t come to fruition at that time, the project regained interest in 2023, when an ex-Virtuos Games employee confirmed its development.
Now, with the newest leaks (which are now inaccessible on the Virtuos Games website – naturally) and Bethesda not denying that the Oblivion remake is, indeed, coming out (only saying it has “no official information”), it could be a matter of months, if not weeks.
Meanwhile, gamers are getting some other nice surprises this year, including the recently launched final patch for the beloved Baldur’s Gate 3, and the upcoming XCOM-inspired Star Wars Zero Company that will launch on Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC before long.
