As the automotive industry continues to speed towards a greener future by going electric, Citroën takes part in the race with the all-new C5 Aircross that isn’t just introducing a full electric vehicle (EV) mode but also boasts extra comfort, space, and next-generation technologies.
Indeed, the French automobile brand has just revealed its second-generation C5 Aircross SUV, which relies on the new Stellantis STLA Medium platform and boasts a range of electrified options: hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or fully electric, according to a press release published on April 30.
New Citroën C5 Aircross characteristics
Notably, the more powerful and aerodynamic design features immense space in row 2 and a generous boot volume regardless of the energy level, suspension via progressive hydraulic cushions, innovative Advanced Comfort seats, a large, user-friendly Waterfall touchscreen on the dashboard, and more.
Furthermore, the Stellantis STLA – Medium platform introduces a longer wheelbase (along with large wheels with a diameter of 740 mm and up to 20 inches) to increase passenger room, as well as hybrid and all-electric supported powertrains that can accommodate various batteries without sacrificing space in the passenger cabin.
Then, there’s the host of driving aids like the Citroën Matrix Leds and Pack drive Assist 2.0, and the choice between over 100 km in electric mode in the plug-in hybrid version, up to 680 km (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure – WLTP combined cycle) in the electric version, and over 950 km in the hybrid version (WLTP combined cycle).
Charging times improvements
Specifically, the new ë-C5 Aircross is available with two 100% electric engines – one that supports up to 520 km of autonomy with a 210 bhp / 157 kW engine combined with a 73 kWh battery, and the other that can handle up to 680 km of autonomy with a 230 bhp / 170 kW engine and a 97 kWh battery.
Additionally, the charging times of between 20% and 80% with the standard 11 kW on-board charger ranges from 6 hours and 45 minutes with the 73 kWh battery to 8 hours and 55 minutes with the 97 kWh battery. From 2026, the company said the model will be able to receive an optional 22 kW three-phase bi-directional charger that will be able to recover up to 160 km of range in just 10 minutes.
Although the details for other markets are yet to be revealed, the new C5 Aircross is expected to hit the car salons in Europe in the second half of 2025.
