- A Chinese humanoid robot set a Guinness World Record by walking 106 km between Suzhou and Shanghai without shutting down.
- Equipped with LiDAR, GPS modules, and advanced balance algorithms, the robot navigated real urban environments with high reliability.
- The achievement highlights China’s growing leadership in robotics, following recent breakthroughs in rescue robots and humanoid marathon participation.
China has built a humanoid robot that just walked 106 kilometers across cities without shutting down. The feat was so extraordinary that Guinness World Records officially recognized it, instantly putting global attention on China’s accelerating robotics breakthroughs.
According to a local news outlet, the robot navigated asphalt roads, tiled walkways, bridges, tactile paving and ramps without breaking traffic rules.
It is powered by a rapid hot-swap battery system from Agibot, a Shanghai-based company that builds robots.
Inside the Historic Journey: How A2 Completed a 106 km Inter-City Walk
The robot, known as Android A2, began its trek from Suzhou on the night of November 10. After nearly three continuous days of movement, it reached the Bund in Shanghai in the early hours of November 13, without shutting down once.
According to the Agibot senior vice president Wang Chuang, the robot accomplished a task that some humans find impossible.
“Walking from Suzhou to Shanghai is a tough task even for many humans, but the robot achieved it. It proves the maturity of the robot’s hardware, cerebellar balance algorithms and endurance, laying a solid foundation for large-scale commercial deployment.”
Equipped with dual GPS modules, LiDAR and infrared depth sensors, the robot easily navigated traffic lights, narrow passages and crowded sidewalks with stable perception during day and night.
China’s Rapid Rise in Advanced Robotics
China has become one of the world’s fastest-moving robotics powerhouses, integrating robots into manufacturing, urban services, rescue operations, and even public events.
Earlier this year, humanoid robots were introduced into the Beijing half marathon to participate alongside humans.
Chinese authorities have also deployed robots which successfully saved drowning tourists in the first ever robot-assisted rescue this year.
